Human Religions

Religion[1] A belief in a divine or superhuman power or powers to be obeyed and worshiped as the creator(s) and ruler(s) of the universe. [2] any specific system of belief, worship, feeling, scientific theory, moral behavior, personal or social values, etc., often involving a code of ethics and a philosophy or any system of beliefs likened to such a system. [3] the means used to worship (prayer, sacrifice, ritual, and/or moral obedience) and the end served (divine will, man's ultimate destiny, and/or the quest for a relationship with higher powers).
Webster's System English Dictionary, Galactic Edition. 2257

The diversity of Human beliefs is truly astounding compared to those of other races. Most of the human population adheres to the tenets of the major religions (such as Buddhism, Confucianism, Greek Orthodox, Hindu, Judaism, Islam, Taoism, Roman Catholicism, Shintoism, and Zoroastrianism). There are a multitude of other religions with smaller memberships (Animism, Foundationism, Hare Krishna, Wicca, the various Christian protestant sects, Vodoun, etc.). There is a broad range of alternate core religious beliefs: religions begun by science fiction writers (Scientology) to anti-religions (Satanism and Anti-theism). Not all humans believe in the existence of a God, or gods, (Atheism) or are unsure of the existence of a higher power (Agnosticism).

First Contact had a profound effect on human religion. It fractionalized and destroyed some religions, while causing new ones, like Life in Transition and the Cult of Elvis, Redeemed, to emerge. Currently, many religious practitioners feel that God has appeared to other races in differing forms (see Trappists). Others feel they are obliged to evangelize the right word to the rest of the galaxy. Earthers are not the only ones who wish to spread their faith. Aliens and their beliefs have won over many human converts (see Spoomun Complat) -- and vice versa.
