pissed off at mail.utexas.edu

Postby TerraFrost » Thu Oct 27, 2005 10:22 pm

I have to say... mail.utexas.edu is begining to piss me off.

I can't check my email with Eudora (I have to use their webmail service, now) because of they're now requiring all connections be made with TLS/SSL. To quote from the email I sent to them:

I've set "Set Secure Sockets when Receiving" to "Required, TARTTLS" and am now recieving the following error message when attempting to log into the POP3 server with Eudora:

, Logging into POP Server, STLS [some timestamp]
Server does not support SSL

I'm running Eudora 6.2.0.14. It seems unlikely that upgrading to Eudora 6.2.3 would resolve this problem. Any ideas what will resolve it?

So, anyway, that's annoying.

Then, today, I tried sending the monthly email for the place I work at. Thanks to their TLS/SSL crap, the script I use doesn't work, anymore. So I tried usng the SMTP server of the place I work at. It works, but apparently doesn't send emails to more than 1,000 or so people at a time. The email list I send to has 15,000 on it. So... without having any real way of knowing who recieved the email, I can't really send the email out, again, lest some people will recieve it twice and bitch.

So bleh.

I'm too busy doing phpBB stuff to work on excising my wrath, hehe :)

It's for the place that I work at. And there are those at UT Austin that send out lots more - probably around 50,000 (one for ea. student). They probably have more of a legit reason than we do, but ah well, heh.

Don't expect me to go into too much more detail than that ;)
