New Sapphire Worm Virus

Postby Nyufrost » Sun Jan 26, 2003 2:46 am

From what I have heard and read, there is a new worm currently slowing down the internet in general and affecting a lot of systems.

It was discovered yesterday and people with firewalls may notice a huge increase of UDP port probes as attackers send them out by the gazillions in all random directions.

SmokeDog told me this is the reason for the laggy effect that *some* people seem to be having with the Frost Jedi homepage. It loads fine for him and for me yet some others have reported lagging and crashing.

No, this does not mean the site itself is virused or that your computer is ... it's just that what ever route your computer is using to get to frostjedi.com is lagged by all the packets being sent out by hackers.

This article contains some really interesting information about it:

There is also a lot more here: http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid=34 ... er_viruses

EDIT: I just learned it does not affect any Windows OS except NT, 2000 and XP so everyone else is safe. :)
