synthetic diamonds, and de beer's

Let's face it - the only reason anyone ever reads Scientific American is to see how "shiny" the future is going to be.

it's kinda an interesting read about synthetic diamonds, their potential uses (one of which is to replace silicon as the material that chips are made out of, because it can withstand much higher temperatures), and what de beer's, the company that has a monopoly over the diamond industry, is trying to do about them:

Wow. I never imagined that they'd be able to make them chemically...that's neat...

Of course, once processors start becoming hot enough to melt silicon, just imagine how much more hear computers will give off. They'll have to double as space-heaters, hehehe...

Either that or they can build processors into space heaters and they can double as backup computers O.o

That's a pretty intresting read, Terra. Yay for de-monopolization (if that's even a word).

More progress has been made in the world of synthetic diamonds:

Cool. At this point, I wonder how much it will help computing power considering how small transistors already are. There was talk in class about Carbon Nanotubes possibly shrinking them more... I wonder if the fact that Diamonds are made of carbon will be helpful along this venue?

Very interesting. I didn't know it is now possible to produce 10-carat diamonds. is it commercial?

MOD EDIT: Don't advertise with your signature, or you're getting banned.
