New VB 6 project (at home)

Postby Drazo » Thu Nov 24, 2005 5:28 pm

Instead of working any more on FIM 1.2 I've decided to do something a little more fancy....and differcult. :D

I've just started and all is going well (which it usually does at this stage). All I can tell you right now is that it's called ABBS (Application Bulletin Board System) and I'll reveal more later as it progresses. :lila

I know....the name gives it away....

The IP addres you see is my LAN IP. And yes it uses INI files so you can alter them (example - to change the IP address the client connects to)

You ought to post some pics on your website as you did for FIM! :)

I've set up a new website for everything to go on to now - http://www.cunningware.com :)

And another screenie - Image

College has taken a lot of my time and especially 'work energy' away so the ABBS developement will be very slow as I'll work on it on weekends and holidays.

ABBS will now be 100x more securer than FIM as I've developed a very hard (but not completely impossible) to crack alphanumericsymbolic key generater. So if anyone makes their own client to connect to a ABBS server they will be able to connect, but won't be able to do anything without being disconnected if they don't supply the correct decoded ANSK first! :)

Current progress stats ATTOTP -

Installation - 100% complete (although will need some additions and alterations)
Server - 30% complete
Client - 5% complete
Help documents - 0% complete

Overall - 25% complete

All % are estimations of corse. :lila

I was even thinking of selling the source code, with the security bits removed, but doing so I'll have to add comments (yes I program without adding in comments....shoot me I'm evil) to increase the value....

I've recently implanted a ALP password encryption so your passwords will be secure in the database. Not even I can decode it! (Like the mb5 or whatever it's called for phpBB passwords....'cept it is decryptable but only to computers with the right decryption method.)

Also got to credit where I found the ALP en/decryption code....I'll find the site again tomorrow....in the mean time I'm sleeping............zzzzzzzzz

Also I'm half deaf (my left ear is gone) right now.......stupid ear infection. ._.

Looks nice! :)

When you start comming up with the graphics for the buttons and all, kde has some nice LGPL graphics:

I'd recommend not using phpBB's default graphics or anything based off of it, 'cause that's not licensed under the GPL.

Incidently, I think you've got a much better chance at getting a job at Microsoft than I do, heh. VB programers who work with the Windows API are gonna be able to learn the source code to stuff like IE (or Hotmail, or whatever) a lot better than PHP programmers who've never worked with the Windows API could, heh.

Microsoft suck, or at least there programs do anyway. Graphics will come a lot later, after I get the basics working. Also I've fixed it to now display forums and cats in their given order -

Update:

Scroll bar works properly and adjusts accordingly to the amount of forums and categories.

'Refresh' method works.

Session record gets removed from DB when you exit.

Etc....
