Ocean Shows Up In The Middle of Africa

Let's face it - the only reason anyone ever reads Scientific American is to see how "shiny" the future is going to be.

Hmmm... I wonder what they'll call that ocean in the far future when it exists. The African ocean? Or something more creative?

Naw, I'm willing to bet that they're calling it the African ocean.

But who's to say that English will still exist as a language making the sound 'Africa' by the time that's actually a full blown ocean? That's what I meant...

heh. Who says the common language of the future will have syllables? How do we know that we won't just communicate telepathically? :p

Erm, Sol's supposedly got a good 5 billion years left in her, so... probably not.

Well, the sun has projected main sequence lifespan of roughly 10 billion years, 5 of which it has already spent existing. Thus, we guesstimate it has 5 billion years left before it progresses into a red giant and then novas, leaving a white dwarf. Or at least, that's what i remember. We may have better and/or more precise ideas by now.

No, I remember my astronomy professor going over the same thing last year. We don't have better ideas. :)
