7 Poems from a Novice

Postby Evlfrost » Sun Jan 19, 2003 10:46 pm

Ok so I am really bad when it come to poetry (I cant even read it). But anyhow I went camping and had nothing else to do. So here they are (these are all in the order I wrote them):

Eagles
This is the first poem I ever wrote so...
When I look up to their lofty eyries
I imagine if they where made of wire
swift their wings
and deadly their ire
their eyes are balls of blazing fire
noble is their gaze
and sharp are their talons
their strength is the epitomy of balance
lo when I look at them up so high
I find my self flying in the sky

Cold
It was really cold outside when I wrote this (21 degrees)
What is cold? I find myself asking
Is it the absense of heat
or the presense of demons basking
Could be just all in our head
or could it be something else instead
It stops the children from going out to play
What is this evil that it should be so cruel?
The answer to that, I cannot say.

The Sun
I started writing a different style here...
What is this sphere of wonder?
Is it the chariot of the gods,
or merely a ball of fire?
How does it but a smile on a face,
or give food to the plants we look after.
So what is this circle of magic up in the sky?
It is a marvel for us to ponder why.

The Sky
This is my dad's fav
What is about the sky so blue
What is it about the air,
that gives life to me and you
What magic is this
that it should be free
Yet still confined
for you and me

Dragons
This is my mom's fav and the most unique of them all
Their scales are hard
their bodies lean
teeth are long
their gaze is keen
Oh such power
such majustity
Their brains are big
their claws so mean
their breath is fire
their wings afar are seen
Oh such power
such majustity

Elves
This is when I remembered that poetry doesnt have to rhyme
Where are the fair folk?
What happen to their laughter
and song?
Are they hiding in valley
or under hill?
Have they gone away
never to return?
Come back, oh come back
And stay until the day
my body is burned

Aliens
The last one
Are they out there?
Do they exist?
Should we fear them?
Should we love them?
Will they abduct us in the night
or will they bear messages declaring peace?
Will they end world hunger,
or do nothing to put our minds at ease.

Thats all. Please post your favorite.

Wow ... you don't seem like a novice, Evl ... those are all very good! I would say "Eagles" was my favorite.

Well I have read a lot of poems by Tolkein and would have to say that he is the main influence.
