Got something you want to moan about but dare to say it elsewhere?

Well I have...

[Removed] SPAMMERS! One little forum...on my site......now empty (typical)......one new member.....one new thread......full of explicit pornagraphic material. And that wasn't the first spam posted there either...........although it was the first I've seen where they posted in-post images. And yes I've tracked down their ISP and reported them.....but there's little chance they'll be able to find the [Removed].....since due to the multi ISPs (on to register and another to post) it may be a zombie computer attack.

Still.....I don't know who's worse.......the worst of chavs or the worst of spammers......but if I could I'd kill them both with absolutely no guilt at all.

Where [Removed] is insert explicit swearing.

I'm annoyed at the University of Texas at Austin. I applied for a job - Application Security Analyst - about a month ago by disclosing a vulnerability (sql injection that could be used to do xss; sql injection was pretty benign, so i focused on how to utilize the xss to do some nasty stuff). No response. A week later, I send them an email asking them if they have any questions. Two weeks after that, I send them an email disclosing another sql injection vulnerability. This one's a bit more severe then the last one. No response. And that was almost two weeks ago.

This past week, I created a brand new email account and sent them an email from it, posing as someone who was interested in applying for the job. I ask them when they hoped to have the position filled by. I, interestingly enough, get an immediate response, saying that they had hoped to have it filled the day before I first applied.

So, basically, the emails I've been sending in are getting read. They're just being ignored. This begs the question... why?

Because I haven't been employed to do PHP development for a year? I guess contributing to open source PHP projects and achieving positions of note within them for multiple-years doesn't much matter. Not when I could have been modifying Drupal's CSS, (illegally) removing copyrights, and claiming that as PHP development (I've seen ads for more then a few "PHP developer" positions where this is pretty much what you do).

Because I don't have CISSP, GCIH, CCNA, CCDA, CISA, or whatever other "hacker" certifications that are offered? Well, gee, forgive me for not being interested in paying to be a script kiddie. It's a really sad testament to your ability if you have to pay to learn what "kids" (hence the name "script kiddie") teach themselves for free.

Because of something else? I don't know, but I can't help but suspect that the reasons I have not been contacted are entirely superficial.

People who obviously have something to say but who'd rather make a video of themselves saying it then actually type their thoughts out. It seems that half of the videos on youtube are like this. I don't know what about it actually bugs me, but it does, none-the-less.

Maybe it's that such people think their argument needs to be a full multimedia experience that's several megabytes large. As opposed to one that's just text-based (with a jpeg added here and there, if necessary) and just a few 10's of kilobytes.

Maybe it's the fact that these people would, were it up to them, turn the internet into a giant TV station. As opposed to text content that, by comparison, is easy to parse, search, etc.

More 'pet peeves' to get off my chest -

People who think because they have 'freedom of speech' they can do what they like. I've seen a lot of 'conversations' on the internet where some jerk flames everyone and everything just because they have the power to do so. Even if they are correct, they shouldn't take 'freedom of speech' for granted especially since there's the fact that they are harrassing people....

9/11 conspiracy theorists. Most evidence I've seen made up are unbelivably ridiculous. 'Nuff said.

My Microsoft's wireless keyboard and mouse. Battery life is supposed to last 6 months. I've had it 7 months.....but the mouse is on it's third set already. The keyboard behaves much better, but even that has a 'funny 5 minutes' sometimes. The mouse is extreamly annoying though.

I hate wireless. I hate Microsoft. I don't know which I hate more though.

People who think they have more right then me. Some think they the have the right to bash me, and only sometimes bash others for being a REAL jerk, but if I dare bash anything, or be silly online/mess about/fooling/joking/etc, I'm the world's worst.

Kinda reminds me of this:

Blackstone's Commentaries on the Laws of England (1803) wrote:Whoever makes use of the press as the vehicle of his sentiments on any subject, ought to do it in such language as to shew he has a deference for the sentiments of others; that while he asserts the right of expressing and vindicating his own judgment, he acknowledges the obligation to submit to the judgment of those whose authority he cannot legally, or constitutionally dispute. In his statement of facts he is bound to adhere strictly to the truth; for any deviation from the truth is both an imposition upon the public, and an injury to the individual whom it may respect. In his restrictures on the conduct of men, in public stations, he is bound to do justice to their characters, and not to criminate them without substantial reason. The right of character is a sacred and invaluable right, and is not forfeited by accepting a public employment. Whoever knowingly departs from any of these maxims is guilty of a crime against the community, as well as against the person injured; and though both the letter and the spirit of our federal constitution wisely prohibit the congress of the United States from making any law, by which the freedom of speech, or of the press, may be exposed to restraint or persecution under the authority of the federal government, yet for injuries done the reputation of any person, as an individual, the state-courts are always open, and may afford ample, and competent redress, as the records of the courts of this commonwealth abundantly testify.

Customers are a pet peeve of mine. Customers who call five minutes after they sent an email and that are mad because they haven't yet gotten a response.

If they require an immediate response, why the hell did they not call, in the first place?

Mind you, I can't be mad at them 100%. It's not their fault I'm the only person who replies to emails. If I take a one-hour lunch break, it's not their fault that my actions have pretty much guaranteed that they won't get a response for at least an hour.

Of course, it is entirely their fault that their expectations are so damn stupid. Even if you're emailing a multi-billion dollar a year company, you're not likely going to get a response in five minutes! In fact, you should consider yourself lucky if you get one within a day!

I mean, honestly, email is simply not an email well suited to instantaneous communication.

I guess some people, though, think "mom and pop" stores have better resources then Fortune 500 companies.

that IS an annoyance. About the only things I have to rant about are that no matter how much I excercise, it seems I cannot run further than two miles, and the Spiderman 3 movie ruined Venom. :boo

I jsut started soccer this monday and we got a new assistant coach. his name is Miguel and he played in the florida gold coast soccer league and has the record there for most goals (32 goals in 11 games) he's awesome and will help our team out alot, but he doesn't seem to like me... I tried to be really nice and super friendly to him but all he ever does is tell me to sit out... we played a mini game thing called world cup where you partner up with some one and a ball is kicked to you and you have to fight for it and try to score, if you succeed then your partner is kicked out and has to run laps or something... well my partner scored and i got kicked out did 10 suicides and 30 push ups and sit ups... not to bad... but then caoch wouldn't let me back in the game.. and other people scored and should have kicked there partners out.. coach said they could stay in... and then just yesterday during another mini game drill of 3 on 3, coach comes in and says "take a break" only to me and then as I walk off he starts instructing everyone else how to control the ball properly while keeping your opponent away... but I was off on the side lines. he's also telling us to take dives which I am strongly agaisnt... I put people on the ground, I don't go on the ground lol... then he tells us we need to talk to the ref if we do take a dive just to make sure we get the call... I know how the refs are in my district and they don't like anyone telling them how to do their job... I'd only end up getting a yellow card and kicked out of the game... it's only the first week so I'll see if he treats me any different but as of right now I don't think he likes me and that really doesn't make want to learn anything from him or give him the proper respect a coach should recieve.
