does anyone have a clue what philosophy is supposed to give us? really, it just gives us the same thing we walked in with, but put into a fancier and neater form. You set your mind going in a loop so much things just get burned into your brain, and you think you understand it...

okay, im not going to say anything else on it right now because ill burn my nuerons. Having a philosophical discussion about philosophy, how bright is that? or am i being romantic again? what the hell does philosophy mean anyway?

someone help me out here.

Without looking at the definition there, I can tell you that all sciences were at one time philosophy subjects. Really, science itself is philosophy, but really just a focused branch of it.

They called it 'natural philosophy' for a reason.

Philosophy is a HUGE discipline. Perhaps you'd like to narrow your query. What kind of philosophy are you talking about? Ethics? Existentialism? Epistemology?

To go back to the greek roots of the word itself, its a love of knowledge. And i believe socrates is quoted as saying its a love of wisdom. Philosophy is the idea of exploration of the world. It is the thought of questioning in pursuit of understanding. Philosophy attempts to find answers, to help humanity apply itself to what seems like an abstract problem ie living. Hence philosophy has both an abstract and practical realm to work within.

I think philosopy is supposed to give us nothing, so that philosopy can not be stopped to change or, no one can find an end for philosopy.

All scientists started out as philosophers. Look at Thales and Aristole. What does it do for us? To quote Socrates "An unexamined life is not worth living". It keeps us searching, always longing for a bright and better future with more understanding of the world around us.
