Well I think it was Hurin since he was able to kill seventy trolls.

Turin was able to slay a dragon, and kill lots of orcs, too...

so i think hurin's son would rank pretty high up there, too, if not higher than hurin, himself.

and tuor might have had some latent power, but the path fate chose for him never really let him demostrate his power, though...

Yes, by far Turin was the most gifted, you cannot proclaim anyone to be the most powerfulest, becuz in essence, they were men and did have power. Just pure greatest in strength, stam and all that other good stuff.

Hurin was probably the strongest hero on record. He slew seventy trolls and countless Orcs, yelling out "Aure entuluva! (Day shall come again!)" before he was finally overborne and taken prisoner. His son Turin survived disaster after disaster, walking away from more battles than many long-lived Elven lords had. However, Hurin's deed happened after the whole of one of the worst battles ever, and his oponents were not ordinary foes (neither was glaurung in the other side).

However, the final answer is given by Tolkien himself. In the Chapter 22 of the Sillmarillion he wrote talking about Turin's death: "and so ended the mightiest of the warriors of mortal men"
