Vote here for submitted poetry

Postby Megafrost » Mon Feb 23, 2004 2:37 pm

Since the time for submitting poems has now expired, I am going to post all the poetry that was submitted. Contestants are advised that they are not allowed to vote for their own poem. You must post your own vote.

Poem #1:

The water around me is growing dark.
A shadow passes
Between the light
And the water?s surface,
And I dive for the lilypads,
Afraid it?s some fisherman
Come with a hook
To catch some unexpecting fish.
But the shadow,
Though it is very busy for awhile,
Like a fisherman,
Keeps moving,
If only barely,
And a fisherman
Is still after a few minutes,
And no hook
Breaks the surface
Of the water.
Curious,
I move closer to the shadow
Though I stay
Down deep,
Among the stems of the pads.
Time passes,
And the shadow
Continues to move.
My curiosity
Gets the better of me,
And I swim
Closer to the surface.
The figure
Is more distinct
Now that I am closer,
And I see
That it is not
A fisherman at all:
There is no
Long fishing rod
Or box full
Of fake worms
To tempt us
To bite.
This shadow
Has something
Large and square
On a stand,
And again
My curiosity
Gets the better of me,
And now I do break the surface.
The figure is a man,
As I thought,
But he does not seem
To notice me,
And so I watch him
For just a moment.
He is holding
Something square
In one hand,
And a short stick
In the other,
And he is using
The stick
To put something
From the square
In his hand
On the square
On the stand
In front of him,
Over and over again.
I cannot imagine
What the man is doing,
But I have seen him
Many times before,
Doing the same thing
He is doing now,
Though it seems
To me
Just as silly
Each time I see him
Doing whatever
It is he?s doing.
He likes
The bridge especially,
And the water?s surface,
And often comes
And sits
And does his
Transferring thing
Glancing occasionally
At the bridge,
Or the water,
Or sometimes
The little boat
At the edge
Of the water.
The sky
Grows even darker,
And the man
Gathers up
His squares
And his stick
And his stand
And leaves,
And so I leave too,
Still curious,
Wondering what
The man
With the stick
And the squares
Could possibly
Have been doing.

Poem #2:

Plastic roses cling
To the windows of a small cafe,
While on the street
Sugary hearts melt in the rain,
Making streams of pastel
Run across the black.

You sit behind those
Transparent roses
Watching the hearts
Being stepped on
By people trying
Trying to escape the rain.

Who's hearts are they?
No one knows.
Some angel must've lost them.
Bound hand and foot,
Their wings refusing to spread.
Laying in the pale rivers
Black ribbons criss-crossing
Wings stained with blood.

Bite back your tears
And finish what you've done.
The clink of change falling
Into the jar
And the door bell's noise
Echo in your mind
As you leave for home.

Poem #3:

You don?t see me even though I?m right in front of you.
I hold you tight and yet you don?t feel.
I look in your eyes and you don?t look back.
I talk to you and you don?t respond.
I start to cry you look down.

You see my eyes.
I see yours.
But I can see your heart, and that?s what I want.
That?s when I think.
How I love you.

How you think you know how I feel.
You don?t know and never will.
You look at me now and now I see.
That when you look at me.
You don?t love me.
You never will.
Until that day when you finally see I love you more than you?ll ever love me.
I know what you think I know how I know.
Its simply because I really don?t.
In till you express me.
How much you do love me.
So now that you know, know what I think I hope you?ll think?of telling me.
